5 Pros and Cons of Living in Fort Collins, Colorado

Fort Collins is continually listed as one of the best places to live in the United States. But is it a good match for you? Read on to find out all the pros and cons of living in Fort Collins, Colorado.

According to Livability, Fort Collins is the number one place to live in the USA. I couldn’t agree more! Fort Collins is amazing.

In case you’re not sure whether it’s the right place for you and your family, I’m sharing the 5 pros and cons of living in Fort Collins, Colorado. Let’s dive in.

5 Pros of Living in Fort Collins

  1. We live along the foothills: Hiking trails, gorgeous mountains, and rivers are only 15 minutes away which means you have a lot of outdoor activities at your disposal.

  2. Brew tours: There are at least 20 microbreweries and brew tours in Fort Collins for you and your family to enjoy.

  3. Old Town Square: The number one place to explore in Fort Collins is definitely the Old Town Square. It has everything you could wish for in a square, from shopping places to restaurants and cafes.

  4. A variety of parks, open spaces, and bike trails: Add 300 days of sun to it, and you’ve got yourself a perfect place to live.

  5. Low crime rate: By far the biggest reason to move to Fort Collins is the low crime rate. It’s a family-friendly area where you will feel safe any time of the day.

5 Cons of Living in Fort Collins

  1. North facing driveways: During winter when it snows, your house is going to cast a shadow over the driveaway so your front lawn is going to have snow a majority of the season. The good side is that we have 300 days of sun!

  2. The airport is a 50-60 minutes drive: However, thanks to the E-470, now it’s much faster to get to the airport than it used to be and there is usually not much traffic on the way there.

  3. No professional sports teams: Although we don’t have any sports teams in Fort Collins, Denver is pretty close so you can go and see your favorite teams play whenever you want.

  4. Lack of diversity: Unfortunately, there is very little diversity in Fort Collins, but as more and more people move here, we’re hoping it will change for the better.

  5. Population growth: Fort Collins is growing rapidly every year (3.000 - 4.000 new people per year) which is a deal-breaker for some people.

Key Takeaway

If you want to live in a town with a professional sports team at your back door, Fort Collins might not be the right choice for you. But if you want to live in a safe area, surrounded by impeccable views, and outdoor activities, look no further than Fort Collins!
