Table of Contents

Old Town Square is an envelope of all great things about Fort Collins, from history, culture, music to living. It’s my home and the place where I work every day. So today, I’m going to reveal some pros and cons about this area and why you should visit it as soon as possible.

History of Old Town Square, Fort Collins

Founded as a military outpost in the late 1800’s, many of the original buildings still stand. Then in the 1980’s, a developer named, Gene Mitchell brought a great idea to help develop what is now Old Town Square. The idea included developing a plaza for people to walk through and buildings for people to shop in, two stories with retail on the bottom, and offices on the top, which is what Old Town Square is today. It’s grown so much over the years, making it more family-friendly and exciting.

Pros and Cons of Old Town Square

As much as I love Old Town Square, it does have some cons. So here are some of the biggest pros and cons that can help you get a better picture of this part of Fort Collins:

Pros:

  • Vehicle-free walking plaza
  • Beautiful flowers
  • Splash pads and patios to drink coffee or restaurants to drink beer on the patio
  • Perfect place for gatherings and social events

Cons:

  • Seasonal occurrence of transients
  • College bars and late-night drinking
  • Two-hour parking limits

Although frustrating, these cons are kept under control by the town authorities, so you probably won’t even experience any uncomfortable situations.
